Pub Competition

Samuel Kurtz, Member of the Senedd, is excited to announce that the “Best Local Pub” competition is back for a second year, giving residents the chance to celebrate the pubs that make their communities special.

At the heart of communities, local pubs are more than just places to grab a pint, they are hubs of social connection, culture, and community spirit. The competition, which celebrates the invaluable role that local pubs play in bringing people together, providing jobs and boosting the local economy, offers a chance for these iconic establishments to gain well-deserved recognition.

“Last year’s competition was a huge success, with The Ivy Bush in Narberth crowned the winner and the Highgate Inn in Hundleton as runner-up,” said Samuel Kurtz. “We’re thrilled to bring the competition back for a second year and give even more pubs the opportunity to be recognised for the invaluable role they play in our communities. And this year we are accepting nominations from the whole of West Wales!”

Across Mid and South Pembrokeshire there are 162 local pubs, 5 breweries, contributing £57million to the local economy and supports 1,175 jobs showing just how important these establishments are to the region. Similarly in Ceredigion Penfro there are 1,800 jobs supported by 161 pubs and 5 breweries, which contributes £59million to the local economy.

Residents can nominate their favourite pub via the website www.samuelkurtz.wales and via Samuel Kurtz’s social media posts. Nominations will be open throughout the month of February with the winners receiving a prize, which includes a free barrel of a standard beer of their choice, thanks to the official sponsors - Templeton Beer, Wine and Spirt Co.

The competition aims to highlight the diverse range of pubs that make each community unique. Samuel Kurtz MS is calling on everyone to take part and ensure that the standout local establishments in the area are celebrated.

“Let’s work together to shine a spotlight on the pubs that have made a difference in our lives and continue to play a pivotal role in our towns and villages,” said Sammuel Kurtz.
