A consultation has opened on a proposed change to the environmental permit for the Withyhedge landfill site near Haverfordwest, giving residents the opportunity to have their say on the future of the site.
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is currently considering a request from Resources Management UK Ltd (RML), the company that operates the site, to vary its permit. The proposed change could allow the operator to accept additional waste at Withyhedge. A four-week public consultation is now underway and will run until Thursday, March 26.
Preseli Pembrokeshire MS Paul Davies has expressed serious concerns about the proposal. He has previously called for the site to be permanently closed following a number of compliance issues and poor environmental performance.
Mr Davies said the operator’s track record raises significant questions about whether any expansion should be permitted. RML was ranked the worst performing permitted installation in Wales in both 2023 and 2024, and Mr Davies believes regulators should be focusing on closing the site rather than allowing it to accept more waste.
Paul Davies MS is encouraging local residents to share their views as part of the consultation. Your feedback will help inform ongoing discussions about the future of the site and the concerns being raised with Natural Resources Wales.
